BAS-01Scope
The range of what gets addressed.
Bureau of Applied Science works across four interconnected areas. Engagements rarely involve just one.
Platforms
Web applications, content systems, membership and subscription platforms, internal tools and portals.
—A subscription platform that has outgrown its original architecture
—A content system that no longer reflects how content is actually produced or delivered
—An internal tool that has become a liability rather than an asset
—A platform that needs to be rebuilt without disrupting live operations
Workflows
Intake, scheduling, fulfillment, reporting, automation — the operational layer between tools and people.
—A manual intake process creating bottlenecks at the front of every engagement
—A reporting workflow that requires three people to produce something one system should generate
—Automation that was set up once and never maintained, now quietly failing
—Fulfillment processes that work in low volume but break under any real load
Infrastructure
Hosting environments, data models, integrations, and the structural decisions that determine how everything fits together.
—A hosting environment that has not been reviewed since it was set up
—An integration layer that works, but no one understands it
—A data model that made sense at founding but no longer reflects how the business operates
—Dependencies on tools or vendors that represent unexamined risk
Decision Layers
What to keep, what to remove, what to rebuild, and what to leave alone — the governance of systems over time.
—Accumulated tools with overlapping functions and no clear owner
—A rebuild impulse where targeted repair would be sufficient
—Vendor or platform decisions made without a clear view of alternatives or dependencies
—Technical debt that is being managed reactively rather than addressed deliberately
OUTSIDE SCOPE
—General IT support or helpdesk work
—Staff augmentation — no developer placement into existing teams
—Spec-to-build without operational context — not a requirements-in, software-out arrangement
If the need is primarily one of these, it is not the right fit — and that can be said directly.
